Fun in the Sun
Actually it is much too hot here. This is probably not the best time of year to visit. But we are having fun. Well-- Kit is not feeling well. Usually I am the one feeling sick. Kirsten and I went out this morning to make arrangements for our Saturday trip and see some more of the town. We visited an arts center where they have classes is music, dance, etc. There were many small children there. We saw groups of preschoolers at Monte Alban as well. We think they are just practicing field trips.
This afternoon Kit went with us to the village of Arrizola where they make the painted animals. We took a taxi to the bus station and then a collectivo taxi to the village. It was VERY cheap. Alas there was no place to eat lunch in the village but we walked around and looked into lots of workshops. We could watch all parts of the process and talk to the carvers with Kirsten´s help. I would not want to be here without her. (John, I got your lizard but the peacocks would be too hard to transport) Anyway, now we are sitting out the hot pàrt of the day again and will have dinner later in the cool.

City of Restoration
Two hours before we left for the airport, I received an e-mail that our B and B was still under constrution. Some work was supposed to be finished but was not. So they found us a new hotel next door. It has big rooms, a kitchen, a fine pool, but noisy at night We arrived in Oaxaca an hour late (after sitting on the runway in Houston) but Kirsten was there to meet us with her host mom Silvia.
Like Paris, much of Oaxcaca is under restoration. The zocalo or town square is a total mess. It is the center of some major protest as some trees are being destroyed in the process. My spelling is not good--the keyboard is totally wierd, like Europe. It is raining and we are hiding out. Thunderstorm afternoon.
This morning we were at the ruins of Monte Alban. Awesome. No plans yet for tomorrow. Yesterday we walked around town and oohed at the buildings. The center of the city is clean (but there is lots of grafiti) and the buildings are wonderful colors. I have lots of photos which I´ll post when we get home.
Last night we had dinner at the home where Kirsten lived in 99. Tonight we will go out to hear the musica. Have a village tour scheduled for Saturday but two days still unplann3ed.
Hasta luega.

A Flying Trip
Well, we are soon off the road and into a flying adventure. We drive down to Seattle on Sunday and fly to Oaxaca (via Houston) on Monday. Kirsten is already there and will meet us at the airport. She says there's an internet cafe on "every street corner" so I should be able to post some stories. The photos will have to wait until we get home.
