A trip East
We left home on a late afternoon (high tide) ferry on Sunday, June 15, did some grocery shopping, and spent the night in Gwen's driveway in Burlington. Then it was over Highway 2 to the warm side of the Cascades. We spent 3 nights in Sun Lake State Park (Dry Falls) mostly resting and recovering from "the crud". We also found some very nice bike rides and hikes, around and between lakes, and across the desert. We visited the visitor center and were enthralled with the Geology of Dry Falls. At the end of the ice age, when the Missoula ice dam broke, water poured over this falls-- which would have been 3 times as high and 4 times as long as Niagara Falls. For a time it was the biggest waterfall in the world. Don't hold your breath but I will try to post some photos. On the fourth night of our mini-vacation we were in Twisp, retracing some of Kirsten's old footprints. We had dinner at the brewpub and morning goodies at the Cinnamon Twisp bakery. Then it was home over Highway 20. When we stopped at the visitor center for the North Cascades National Park it was downright hot but by the time we got back to Anacortes it had cooled down considerably. We came home with the high tide on the 6 pm ferry.

Away from the Green and Wet
This has been the coldest, dampest June on record. A few days ago there was snow in the mountain passes. The sun is starting to appear and everything is beautiful and green. But we need a change of scenery so are heading out on the high tide Sunday night with Wayne and Alice to check out the weather on the other side of the mountains where hopefully it is warmer and drier. Since I last posted we have gotten a new iMac computer so this is a trial run for me on the blog. The text part is just the same but I am a bit worried about posting pictures. We aren't taking a computer with us so I'll see what I can post when we return.
