Countdown
One more Friday movie night. One more pool day. One more bocce game. We plan to leave midday Sunday. I am doing my Jamaica program at the Sunday morning social. After that we have to shut down the house and hit the road
Today was fun day-- parade, donuts, games, free barbecue. Time to leave

Sunday bike
We decided to return to the Julian wash trail for our Sunday bike ride. They have opened up a new section (9mi) of the trail. The wildflowers were amazing esp. The penstamen -- I couldn't get a good photo. Also saw our first blooming hedgehog but it's difficult to get a good photo with the phone in bright day light. This was the most unusual find-- poppy heads on a thistle body

Brown Mountain
The wildflowers seem to be better on the west side of Tucson so we went out to Brown Mountain, next to the desert museum, for a hike today. Lots of rock hibiscus and some kind of desert rose yet be identified and ocotillo which are not yet flowering on our side of Tucson.

Bike club
Here are a few of us in our new bike club shirts at our farewell party today. Spent the day in a bike safety class doing challenging things even for old timer Kit and world biker Bob. I got to make a left turn through traffic on a very busy street. Something I would never have done a year ago

5:00 news
We had a great bike club ride today though only 5 of us. Rode along the Santa Cruz "river" straight into the 5:00 news. Well not quite. We had lunch under a helicopter circling and circling. Police cars flashing blue etc. They were looking for some bad guy who fled a car loaded with guns. No danger for us but a little excitement Mostly it was a good ride and almost 20 miles and almost 90 degrees. Stopped at Baskin Robbins on our way home

Lines
These are about a 10th of the people waiting in line ahead of me with an equal number behind me and there is still a half hour to wait. I am at the Tucson Festival of books otherwise known as wait in line. This line is for JA Jance, Nevada Barr and Eliz Coel
Am I crazy? People are still pouring in and the line goes down the stairs and around the block. So much for bad weather keeping people away

Surprise guests (#7)
We were quite surprised when part time Guemes neighbors Gary and Pauline dropped by this afternoon. They winter at another park in Tucson. We were at home awaiting the big rainstorm which is just now arriving.

Tuesday hike
Kit and I usually do a Tuesday hike independently of the FHTV hiking club. Today we ran into the No Hurry group on Pontatoc Ridge-- a trail we have never done before. Gorgeous day -- before the storm coming Friday. Found 16 species of wildflowers but could not identify them all.

Guests #6
Just got back from lunch with Lynn and Chris. Lynn was a librarian in Springfield also. They now live on Orcas Island-- two islands over from us. So we finally get together in Tucson. Turns out her parents lived in Tucson since 1967 -- just 3 blocks away from where we are. Photo is in front of Ha Long Bay-- the Vietnamese restaurant where we take almost all our guests.
