California

We are crossing California east to west. Today we did miles and miles of desert. Hours passed and we were still in the desert. Then we got to suburbia where desert used to be. Hours of slow driving. We have stopped at an RV park which we know well--on our way to the coast. Of course the weather is changing and wind and rain are in the forecast. But we hope to enjoy Jalama anyway.

Spring in the desert

Sent from the Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro, an AT&T LTE smartphone

Brenda

Kit has always wanted to come to Brenda and here we are. Clear and gone in the middle of nowhere near Quartzite. Nice park. Nice pool but shallow. Downside-- all the ATVs that seem to enjoy driving around and around the park. Park abuts BLM land so nearly everyone has one. 250 miles of driving today-- after near 3 hours of getting house ready to leave.

On the road again

Here is the house all wrapped up for the summer. You can barely see Blanche the car in her gray baggie. Ida is off to the side, packed and ready to go. We are heading north and west. On our way to southern Cal coast.

Young Hank

Here in the campground at ORPI I have found young Hank and his little Buddy. We are here in the campground for another day and then must take Ida back to Dodge dealer as there is trouble with new diesel tank.

Cactus bloom

The cholla are blooming. I call these the BS cholla -- either Buckthorn or Staghorn.

Estes Canyon

We have come back to ORPI for 3 nights. I drove the car so we could drive the 21 mile loop and go hiking in Estes Canyon. The wildflowers are wonderful though a bit past prime. And the geology is awesome. The climbing wasn't bad but we didn't go up to Bull Pasture. Great hike. 2.7 miles.

Ranger Kit and Carol

Kit came with me for the last field trip of the season. I sent him to help another Carol while I had a chance to observe and teach 2 new stations. Now my work for the season is done. Kit is still doing bike patrol when he can. Here we are in our uniforms:

Mexico ii

We had lunch made by the senoras in a family garden in San Ignacio. (near the second church)

Mexico

On Sunday we went on an outing to Mexico (on a tour bus) visiting some of the Father Kino missions there. It was quite a surprise for all to find this first church painted bright orange.
