Summer
It is summer. We are home and I am happy to stay here. Yesterday we went off island to Bellingham to Trader Joe's and REI. Today we climbed the "mountain" and had a picnic in the sun. Even on the bald top far from any trees we were besieged by tent caterpillars. They are on the move Everywhere! Then we got out the deck furniture and I spent the afternoon sitting in the sun reading the new "Tide"--and on the porch with a glass of wine. No work today. Next job is getting the scrap branches up the "hill" and doing a burn before the burn ban goes into effect.

Deception falls
I took a movie of this awesome falls where we stopped for lunch but it won't post. Here is the still version. Kit says the state of Arizona would be happy just with the water coming over this falls
Back at home--all is well
The two day drive home was not so much fun--but not totally horrid either. We came south down the Idaho panhandle and across WA on highway 2. Flatter route but more traffic. Found a nice motel in Davenport with a Mexican restaurant next door and Safeway across the street. Kit left his bag in the room. Luckily some other people from Anacortes were staying there last night and brought the bag back for us. If you even need to stop in Davenport--it's called the Davenport Motel and Jeff the manager was most helpful.

Coal trains
Where we live coal trains are an evil entity to be challenged. No coal trains come even close to Guemes Island. Here they are just a fact of life. The RR is just a block from Kirsten's house. The trains come by nearly every hour. I am surprised how quiet they are. The tracks are close to the lake and the sound does carry when you are across the water.

Invermere
This inukshuk is looking out over Lake Windemere and the Rockies. It is quite close to Kirsten's house. Not an adventurous day. I went shopping and found a new fabric store. Kit has been working on problems with her car Bob.

Frater Lake
The NE corner of WA is gorgeous today. Quiet back roads. Kit saw a moose but I didn't. Found this lovely little lake. Now we are across the border into BC

Republic
It is worth making a stop in Republic WA just to hang out in this brewery. Dogs and peanut shells on the floor. The place is loud and hopping on Wednesday eve. We can get pizza delivered from next door. It was awesome.

Another adventure
Spring has been wonderful here. (though not enough rainy sauna days). We are getting ready to leave tomorrow to head up to BC to see Kirsten. It is an adventure because our ferry is currently out of service for repair. Our car is "on the other side" and mostly packed. We have borrowed a friend's island car although I get to walk to the passenger only ferry tomorrow. Kit has to cook for Men's Breakfast--very early in the morn. I am quite happy to be getting away from the dreaded Memorial Day pie sale and baking event.
