93 degrees

Went for a short hike in the park today despite the heat. Wildflowers still glorious but it's those brilliant pink hedgehogs that we were seeking

Blooming Hedgehog

Kit took this photo in NP today

Bats bats bats

Have you ever tried to take a picture of a bat?, hundreds of bats?, thousands of bats. Very close to our house Broadway crosses the Pantano wash and that bridge is a premier Tucson bat area. Now there is a new bike trail under the bridge. The bats have arrived early this year. Not yet the 200,000 seen here in earlier years. The babies have yet to be born. But at precisely the hour of sunset (6:34 on Thursday) they come flying out from under the bridge and fly into the sunset. They spend the evening chasing insects as these Mexican Free Tails are insect eating bats. We hear they like to dip into our pool for a drink but we have never seen them. It was a pretty impressive sight.

3rd Graders

Here is Kit a couple of weeks ago leading a 3rd grade group on a "bioblitz" hike. This was before the brittlebrush was a sea of gold. We have one more 3rd grade field trip this week and two next week and Friday(4/3) we will leave for home. We have been lately out taking wildflower photos but they are still on our camera. My adobe house.

This ranch house was our destination on the border road. The Border Patrol is ensconced just up the hill. Ranch dates from 1910s but think the house has been partially restored. This adventure was on Saturday. Drove home in the rain today.

Border road

Here is the border fence and road going off into the distance and over the hill. What this photo doesn't show is back 1/4 mile the tall fence ends and the car barrier begins. We could have easily stepped across it. Lets the animals through.

Mexico

The park (ORPI ) has opened up an old ranch site along the border. We drove there yesterday on dirt roads. This is the famous wall aka fence and on the other side is Mexico. There are lots if patches in the fence. Guess Homeland didn't think about wire cutters
