Birthday Advenure

We decided to go up to Phoenix for Kit's birthday--just a little get away to see the Musical Instrument Museum about which we had heard many rave reviews. Woke in the morning to a winter thunderstorm. They tend to soak us on the way to exercise class and then quickly move on. But driving north we (meaning me who was driving at the time) drove straight into another one. Huge black wall on the horizon and distant flashes. Then the deluge started. Got off the road for awhile to see if it would pass by. Back on the highway passed cars in the ditch and lots of flashing lights so it's good we stopped. By the time we got to the museum it was blue sky all around. But while we were inside another storm came through with hail this time. So the weather was the adventure.

We spent 4 hours in the museum and didn't begin to see it all. Besides the 10,000 musical instruments from around the world there were lots of videos of instruments being used in a cultural setting. Won't attempt to describe it all. In the famous people section there was the guitar Joan Baez played at Woodstock--and Glen Campbell's bagpipes. I didn't even know he played.

Our hotel was very close and quite nice but we got ripped off by a so-called "third party." . Buyer beware if you think you are talking direct to the hotel you may not be.
We even found a Bj's Brewpub close by. Because we stayed over to attend an evening concert. The auditorium in the museum is VERY nice--good sound luckily because Kit forgot his hearing aids. The group we saw was called Steel Wheels--Appalachian roots--New Grass" (contemporary bluegrass) very good show.

Tuesday we came home and all was calm.
