Home

Always run out of steam for blogging the last day home. From Wells it was a very nice drive up 93 and I84 to Pendleton but another long drive for us (arriving at 5pm)
Last day home was much shorter. Weather was perfect and traffic mostly light on 184 through the Columbia Gorge. Awesome views of Mt. Hood and the river. Arrived home midafternoon and began the huge task of unloading and unpacking. All is well here.

A favorite picnic spot

Usual we look down into the gorge but today I was fascinated by the sky.

Nevada

We used to think Nevada was the ultimate in boredom. That was before we discovered Highway 93. Never seem to tire of the awesome expanse of sage desert surrounded by snow capped mountains. There is never much traffic on this mostly 2 lane road so it is easy driving too. And enough interesting places along the route --today we discovered a National Wildlife Refuge we'd never found before (maybe it's new) and drove through the old mining town of Pioche. So it was a mostly good driving day--after we got out of Las Vegas. AND we always have an audio book This time is a 9 cd history of John Brown and Harper's Ferry.

Tucson to Henderson NV

Since we got away in a reasonably timely manner we made it to Henderson. Had lunch stop at the Wickenberg Rest Area as usual. Nice rest area --the last with running water until we reach Idaho. No real problems on the way. Saw gas prices as high as $5.59 but didn't seem to be a deterrent as plenty of traffic. Had a terrible time getting gas because there were so many cars all helter skelter . We lucked out at the Hampton Inn we like. Didn't get a room with an outside door (for bringing in bikes) but our first floor room is almost as good. And this time we arrived on the right night for free food. Taco Tuesday today.

Now only memories

Leaving (in a Subaru)

We are up this morn and on our way home. Leaving Tucson behind though Kit is coming back. Car is packed to the top and bikes on the back. Good weather today. We know we are heading to cold and rain.
