Loved the Inn & Painted Desert. I was excited about the fact that a lot of the Inn's original furniture was made by Civilian Conservation Corp. guys - my dad was in that for a while. Loved the stories of the Harvey Girls & ran into some live ones in Williams, AZ, at the train museum. Petrified Forest was a disappointment. Did you try to intentionally follow Route 66 at all? We came across a Route 66 State Park in Missouri, in the general vicinity of Hermann & St. Louis.
